What happens at your first hearing assessment?

1. Congratulations! You’ve booked your hearing assessment.

Your ability to hear plays such an important part in being able to live a full and satisfying life.

It allows you to interact with friends and family, participate in social activities and keep connected to the world around you. Our licensed hearing professionals will provide you with friendly, personalized care and custom solutions to meet your specific needs.

2. Have a personal consultation with your hearing care expert.

Our hearing care provider will take the time to get to know you during a one-on-one discussion. Together, you will discuss your hearing concerns, challenges, and needs, your medical history to date and any important lifestyle factors. A series of hearing assessments will be conducted – none of which will cause any kind of discomfort.

3. Physical ear examination

Your provider will examine your ears and check for earwax and any foreign objects which could be blocking your ear canals. Next, your eardrum(s) will be viewed for signs of damage, infections or other abnormalities. This portion of the exam will help you hearing care expert understand if there are any medical explanations for your hearing loss.

4. Comprehensive hearing assessment

The hearing assessment is simple and painless. You will sit in a soundproof room or booth while wearing headphones. We will ask you to listen to and respond to various tones, speech sounds and voices. Your responses will be recorded on an audiogram. The results will help indicate if you have a hearing loss that can be treated with hearing aids. Once complete, your provider will review the results with you and discuss next steps and, if needed, treatment options.

5. Same-day assessment results and recommended solutions

Based on the results of your hearing assessment, your hearing care expert will provide you with a counseling session, where you will learn more about your results. If you have any level of hearing loss, your provider will recommend solutions to meet not only your hearing needs, but also your lifestyle and budgetary requirements.

Bring a close friend or family member to your first appointment

We recommend bringing a person with a familiar voice to your hearing assessment as it helps the hearing care provider to see how well you understand words spoken by someone who is close to you. This provides the most accurate assessment results.

In addition, it's comforting to have a friendly face and calming voice should you feel anxious. It's helpful for someone else to understand your hearing loss, and should you require treatment, this person can aid  in making important treatment decisions.

Please bring your driver’s license or I.D. and insurance card, if you have one.
