Today, we invite you to meet one of our apprentice hearing instrument specialists in Willoughby, Ohio. Lauren has been working toward her license since July 2024 and is on schedule to be fully licensed later this year.
I’m Lauren and I’m an Apprentice Hearing Aid Specialist with HearingLife. I joined the company in 2023 as a patient care coordinator, but my journey with hearing health started long before starting my career here in Willoughby, Ohio. I was diagnosed with hearing loss as a child and have been wearing hearing aids since the age of two. Since then, my experiences have shaped not only who I am, but also the passion I bring to my work every day.
Before becoming a hearing care professional, I spent much of my career in retail management positions. I loved the challenge and the people I worked with, but over time, I realized I wanted to do something more personal and impactful. Hearing loss has always been a part of my story, and I felt called to help others through the challenges that come with it.
Growing up, I was fortunate to have supportive family and friends who encouraged me to live fully and pursue my interests. I played sports, joined the school band, and navigated life much like any other child. Still, some situations were more difficult than for my hearing peers. Over the years, I’ve learned how to adapt, cope, and keep moving forward through the challenges that come with hearing loss.
My dad often told me I should pursue a career helping people with hearing loss - and he was right! I’ve always loved connecting with others, listening to their stories, and sharing my own experiences. For many people, hearing loss can feel isolating or overwhelming. Some folks withdraw from day-to-day life, unsure how to manage the challenge of hearing conversation or instruction. That’s why I made a career change with one clear goal: to show every person I meet they are not alone.
Every conversation I have, every fitting I do, and every question I answer is about more than just hearing aids. It’s about building confidence, breaking down barriers, and inspiring people to embrace their hearing journey – not hide from it. My hope is that by sharing my story, I can empower others to share theirs.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, as well as my two dogs, Willow and Winston. I love being outdoors – whether it’s a walk in the park, boating on the lake, or relaxing on the beach. These moments recharge me and remind me of the joy in everyday life and the balance that I bring into the care and support I provide for others.
