Tod Borges is a Hearing Aid Dispenser (Lic. #HA-3827) who provides care from our Lodi, California location. He has been a hearing aid dispenser for 25 years, and just marked his 7th year with HearingLife.
Tod originally became a hearing aid dispenser because the hours were a good fit, but he quickly realized that the work he was doing really mattered to people.
“Having a concrete impact on their quality of life really took the job from an occupation to a vocation,” Tod says. “My favorite part is seeing their eyes light up and the big smile they get when they are wearing hearing aids for the first time and realizing how much better life can be.”
Tod is especially passionate about helping people in their last stage of life. One memory that he says has really stuck with him was the time a wife returned her husband’s hearing aids within the first 30 days because he had passed away.
“She told me that the night before he passed, as he went to bed, his last words to her were how much he loved his hearing aids and wished he had gotten them sooner,” Tod said, choking up.
Tod wishes more people realized the impact of their self-imposed isolation and how much more pleasurable life can be when they stay connected to the world around them.
“I have seen actual changes in personality take place when the grumpy, nonverbal person finally seeks help,” he says.
