It's a new year. Are you focusing on your health and well-being?

Now is the time when we schedule our annual appointments with doctors, dentists and other health care providers. Did you know that having your hearing assessed* yearly is just as important as all of your other annual checkups?

Your ability to hear well has a lot to do with your quality of life. Untreated or undiagnosed hearing loss can negatively affect your relationships, social life, and even your overall wellness.

What are the steps to better hearing?

It all starts with a free, painless hearing assessment with a HearingLife professional.

  1. Initial Consultation with a Hearing Care Professional—Conducting a thorough case history is the initial step. You will be asked about your family and personal medical history. This will help us to determine the possible causes of any hearing loss and the part of the ear that could be damaged.

  2. Video-Otoscopic Exam—Your initial consultation will be followed by a video-otoscopic exam, a non-invasive procedure in which we use a small camera to look into your ear canal to check if wax blockage is your only problem.

  3. The Hearing Assessment—The next step is to test your ability to hear tones and frequencies at different volumes, and a live voice test of a friend or loved one. This will help us to determine the exact nature of your hearing loss.

  4. Review Audiometric Results—We will then discuss the results of your audiogram and your Hearing Care Professional will explain the results to give you an exact understanding of how each ear is performing.

  5. Discuss Treatment Options—When your hearing assessment is completed and we have gone over the results, the final step is to find out what is the best answer to bring your hearing back to as close to normal as possible.
